No part of the human body has as many synonyms or ways of referring to it as the genitals. We are ashamed to talk about them even though they are part of the most important processes of the human body and we have invented, with great creativity it must be said, a thousand euphemisms to talk about them: to children, to the doctor and even in our most intimate conversations. It would be nothing serious if it were not a symptom of something deeper. We are not only ashamed to talk about them; we are ashamed of them in themselves, especially those who have a vulva.
The aim of this book is to show the variety of the vulva through more than 40 watercolors, using references from people who have lent themselves to show me their intimacy. There have been this number, as there could have been ten or a hundred. It is not an encyclopedia, nor an exhaustive analysis of anatomy; it is a random and representative sample of people close to me. In addition, I have asked them to write me a short text, with absolute freedom, about their vision or experience of the subject.
And finally, to give a little more depth, and as an appendix, I have compiled information that may be useful about the parts of the vulva or about myths and beliefs, trying to give an objective and educational view. I am not a sexologist and, although the texts have been reviewed, I recommend that it be used as a starting point to go even deeper through specialized literature.
Repeat after me: vulva, vulva, vulva… It doesn’t cost so much anymore, does it?
